Medvedev Issues Strong Warning to Berlin
Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, has delivered a sharp warning regarding the potential for Germany to pursue a nuclear arsenal. Medvedev emphasized that any attempt by Berlin to develop or acquire nuclear weapons would cross a major geopolitical red line, effectively serving as a pretext for war.
According to the Russian official, such a move would fundamentally alter the security architecture of Europe and force Moscow to reconsider its defensive posture. Medvedev explicitly stated that the mere advancement toward nuclear capability would provide Russia with the legal and strategic justification to utilize its own nuclear deterrence measures.
The statement comes amidst heightened tensions between Russia and the West regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Medvedev also raised questions regarding the stance of the United States, wondering whether Washington would support or oppose such a shift in German military policy, given the historical and strategic implications of nuclear proliferation in the region.
The acquisition of nuclear weapons by Germany would be viewed as a clear violation of international security norms and a direct threat to Russia.
As the standoff continues, the international community remains concerned about the escalatory rhetoric. Analysts suggest that these warnings are intended to signal Russia's firm stance against any expansion of nuclear capabilities among NATO allies, particularly those that have historically adhered to non-nuclear policies since the end of the Cold War.
