Strategic Military Realignment
Major General Dr. Mohamed Kashkoush, an advisor at the Higher Military Academy for Strategic Studies, asserts that the current military landscape in the Persian Gulf represents a definitive pivot point. According to his analysis, the strategic positioning of U.S. forces has created a clear divide between the pre-closure and post-closure phases regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking on the television program Ahdath Al-Sa'a, Kashkoush detailed how the U.S. has established a vast strategic arc. This military footprint stretches from the Mediterranean, specifically near Israel, down to the Indian Ocean and across the Persian Gulf. By leveraging the Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain and advanced assets like the Diego Garcia base and F-22 fighter jets, Washington has created a posture capable of rapid power projection.
Tactical Options for Iran-USA Tensions
The expert noted that while a full-scale direct conflict remains complex, the U.S. has maintained several high-stakes scenarios in its planning. These include potential ground operations to seize strategic islands that control oil transit routes. Furthermore, Kashkoush highlighted that the U.S. could contemplate deep-strike operations within Iranian territory to neutralize or seize sensitive nuclear facilities.
Beyond physical interventions, the analysis suggests the U.S. may prioritize electronic warfare and sophisticated technology to disrupt or dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities. While such escalations are not currently deemed imminent, they remain core components of the ongoing regional military calculus.
