Reza Pahlavi addresses controversy over ties to Israel
Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the former Shah of Iran, faced direct questioning regarding his relationship with the Israeli government during a recent interview. When asked by a journalist if he served as an Israeli agent, Pahlavi provided a definitive denial, though he acknowledged his long-standing friendship with the state of Israel and the Jewish people.
The journalist challenged Pahlavi by noting that many people believe the Israeli government supports his political ambitions in Iran, particularly while Israel is engaged in a broader regional conflict involving the Iran USA tensions. Pahlavi responded by framing his position through a historical lens, citing the legacy of Cyrus the Great.
I am a descendant of Cyrus the Great, and we take pride in the fact that the cornerstone of human rights was laid during his reign,Pahlavi stated. He referenced the historical ties between Persians and Jewish people, noting that Cyrus the Great historically facilitated the liberation of Jews in Babylon and supported the reconstruction of their temples in Jerusalem.
Pahlavi asserted that Iranians and Jewish people share a unique, ancient connection, which he described as a biblical relationship. Despite the ongoing regional instability and the complexities of the Iran war, he maintained that his stance is rooted in cultural heritage rather than political subservience.
