Pressure on Iran's Military Infrastructure
Lester Munson, a senior fellow at the American Security Project, stated that the United States is systematically working to undermine Iran's missile capabilities. Speaking on Al-Qahera News, Munson noted that Washington is maintaining rigorous conditions for any future agreements, even as it claims success in damaging Iranian nuclear facilities.
While acknowledging the possibility of sudden military strikes, Munson indicated that such an outcome is not the primary objective. Instead, the focus remains on compelling Tehran to cease support for regional proxies and stop destabilizing neighboring governments. He argued that these demands align with established international legal frameworks.
Negotiation as a Path to Sanctions Relief
Munson suggested that the current Iran war tensions could lead to a diplomatic breakthrough. He believes Tehran may be willing to negotiate its missile program in exchange for significant relief from economic sanctions. According to the analyst, the current administration's demands are not overly rigid, provided that Tehran accepts a much stricter, more intrusive inspection regime than previous agreements allowed.
The expert emphasized that while the Iran USA nuclear program has faced significant setbacks, Washington is operating under the assumption that Tehran continues to attempt a reconstruction of its capabilities. Consequently, any new diplomatic arrangement would require robust guarantees to ensure that the country does not return to its previous nuclear trajectory.
